The caption book
Notebook, decals lettering, 2022
In international publishing, the small annotations that appear at the end of a column in a newspaper article are called "Jumplines" or "Continuation lines", such as "continued to page 43". We also find them at the beginning of a column to indicate the page of origin of the text, as in "continued from page 42". So when an article jumps from page to page, these sentences identify the next or previous part of the text, ensuring continuity and fluency in reading.
When an article is illustrated by photographs, a specific lexicon also exists in that case. The caption, which can be located at a distance from the image to which it refers, includes indications on where to find the illustration in question on the page or the magazine. «The caption book» or this notebook was conceived as the container of these words. They have been collected during various newspaper or magazine readings, some of which have been invented. At the same time, however, they create the very structure of the book. Your reading will be guided page after page and marked by sudden jumps that you will have to grasp well in order to reach the end.
