En Forme
Raw clay, leather, paper. Variable dimensions, 2020/2023.
During the year 2020, while we were subject to the rules of isolation with which we are all familiar, I decided to take a few kilos of clay in hand and shape the days by inventing seventeen different forms, "by removing" the material, a process that is usually done in the art of ceramics "by adding".
This particular situation led me at the same time to want to stimulate the collective imagination in relation to the abstract forms I was producing. I used social media to this end, asking people to give me a title each time I unveiled a sculpture. 426 titles were collected in this way in a booklet (signed edition of 20 numbered copies).
The skin, hung on the wall, reproduces each shape in negative, with a slight deformation due to the nature of the material. The leather forms, placed beneath the sculptures, become their shadows.
The work is accompanied by a series of drawings made from the clay dust left over from the creation of the sculptures. The series is a graphic proposal of the juxtaposition of the seventeen forms of the sculptures with each of the others, making a total of 136 combinations.
